A leading Eco Hotel in the Azores: Sustainability and sustainable tourism are the foundations that The Solar Branco Eco Estate are built upon. With this in mind every stay at The Solar Branco Eco Estate contributes to the environment and community around us, supporting two charitable programs, reflecting the island of Sao Miguel, from land to sea. Guests are invited to support the protection of the environment and waters around the Azores through The Ocean Azores Foundation.
LEAVE NO CHILD BEHIND: Secondly, we recognise that tourism has brought new wealth and opportunities to the islands, and we want to help ensure that everyone in the community benefits. We also help to support the local charity, Casa Do Gaiato (children’s home) in Ponta Delgada. Net proceeds from the regular Expats In Azores drinks and other ad-hoc events are donated to the Children’s home. Attendees can make their own donations through the Solar Branco Eco-Estate or direct to the charity here.
While well-intentioned visitors have enquired about helping at the home or volunteering time, thank you for your understanding that this isn’t possible. Books, toys, clothes or cash donations are gratefully received and will be passed on. Visit Casa Do Gaiato to find out more about their work.
#WELOVEAZORES: The outbreak of Covid-19 has brought so much damage to the tourism based economy of the Azores. With this in mind, we have doubled down on our #weloveazores pledge. This is our commitment to locally source close to 100% of our food and drinks served here at The Solar Branco Eco Estate and The Gin Library. We have also created a dedicated area of our website to help all guests and visitors to the island discover local producers, restaurants and experiences.
