Composting is nature’s way of recycling. In this process, organic waste, such as food waste and garden clippings, is biodegraded and turned into valuable fertilizer.
Our hotel benefits from composting in a number of ways:
- Reductions in the amount of waste sent to landfills: This helps reduce the strain placed on our landfills, allowing them to be available for material that absolutely needs to be placed in them
- Rich, productive soil: The soil that is created from composting is perfect for growing plants
- Less reliance on chemical fertilizers: Compost soil has all the nutrients that plants will need to grow, so we don’t need fertilizers that can contaminate water sources and harm wildlife
- Cost savings: It’s cheaper to compost than to dispose of this type of material through normal garbage collection (can’t ask for more than that!)
In addition, we have recycling bins for other materials. Should you wish to recycle your own food waste, we welcome you to do so. Our ladies of Cluckingham Palace will happily eat almost all of it (just no avocado’s, onions, garlic or citrus please as these are not good for them.)
